Sand and Snow
This was a weekend full of excitement! I guess you can call it that.
We began the weekend with absolutely no agenda. Although, once again, yesterday Jason said to me, "So, what are we gonna do today?" My response, as usual, "I dunno. Let's get in the car." So we did.
We ended up going on Highway 1. We went to a beach that we had been once before. We just roamed the beach looking for seashells and sea life. We found a lot of whole sand dollars, mussel shells, and other perfectly formed seashells. There were also a ton of beached jellyfish which was really nasty, and dead crabs too. Ehhh, that's raw nature I suppose. That was saturday.

Today, Jason went golfing with his boss. He got a call last night to go with him. I don't ask questions, I just go with it.
My original sunday plans did not end up working out due to Jason's golf day, so I made a last minute decision that I was not going to sit around all day with the kids. I packed up their snow gear and headed to Lake Tahoe. WHYYYYYYY do I do these things? I realized about an hour into the drive that Kevin will need to stop to pee every hour, it will be freezing, and light snow falling too. Light snow... haaaaaaaaaa! Nope, it wasn't light snow, it was blizzardlike again. I still made the trip all the way there, and stopped at Squaw Valley.
TONS OF FUN! The kids were soooo well behaved, even in the car. It was such a great time throwing snow, going up the "cable car" to High Camp at nearly 8500 feet, and watching ice skating too. Such a blast!
Then we headed home slightly before 4pm, and got home slightly before 10pm. Yes, close to 6 hours to get home. The weather was horrible, the roads were horrendous, the drivers were crappy, and chain controls were outta control.
It was a great day though. Ni night.

Change?!
Today officially makes the bumper stickers that read, "1-20-09" old news.
I have to admit, last week I set the DVR to record all of the inauguration festivities. All 8 hours or whatever crazy amount of time it is being covered today. I ended up catching the most important part of everything, the actual swearing in of our new Vice President and President, along with a few other people too. I will also admit, I got teary eyed. Yeah yeah yeah, go ahead and think I am nuts. I also cringed when Obama not-so-subtly blasted Pres. Bush for his mistakes, blunders, lies, whatever you want to call them. Pres. Bush looked so defeated. Part of me felt really bad for him. He looked so tired, so beaten. I know he made wrong decisions, unpopular decisions, but in the end, you gotta have some emotion for the guy. He is an outstanding American, and after all, he was voted as our President twice. (and if you want to battle conspiracy theories about that, don't do it here.)
It will be interesting to watch President Obama take over. I hope most people know that it will be impossible to live up to promises, and most importantly, expectations. He has a lot on his plate. No matter who took the oath today, I have been hoping for a change. Not the election buzz word "Change", but real change. I do think McCain could/would have brought some positive changes (Don't talk to me about Palin though. Sorry Palin fans!).
Today we have a new President. Today, whether you like it or not, is historical beyond the swearing in of our 44th President. Events of today will be shown in books, magazines, photos, on television, or any other media for the duration of this country.
Juliana woke up this morning saying, "BYE BYE GEORGE BUSH, HELLO BARACK OBAMA!" Ditto.

Beach bound in January
We've had a quiet weekend, somewhat. We have been busy, yet quiet at the same time. Today we went back to Point Reyes. We almost went to Santa Cruz, but we wanted to bring Shadow with us. Point Reyes is very pet friendly, so why not venture over there. Here are some pictures of our day with Shadow on the beach in Point Reyes.

OHHHHH BOY!
If you get grossed out easily, stop reading!
The joys of potty training. Kevin was super proud of himself today after going poopy in the potty. We've been talking about wiping since he hasn't exactly mastered that task. Today, he thought he would do me a favor and not have me wipe him. He took Donald Duck to do the dirty work. This is how it played out:
Kevin: yelling from the bathroom, "Mommy, I'm going poopy!"
Mommy: "Yeahhh, tell me when you are done, and I'll wipe you."
Kevin: "It's ok mommy, I did it!"
Mommy: "Yayyyy buddy boy, good job!" I said this while in the garage doing laundry.
A minute or so passed.
Kevin: "Look, Donald Duck did it for me!"
Mommy: "Nooooo, you need to wipe your bottom, or Mommy, or Daddy, not one of your toys."
Kevin: AGITATED. "Donald Duck is not a toy, he's my friend!! He help me!"
I just rolled my eyes, and put Donald Duck on the washer for the next load. It is currently in use, and at this rate, probably will be until he is 16.

Kevin: " Do I still get a lollipop for being a big boy?"
Mommy: "Yes, you are a big boy that did a REALLLLY yucky thing."
Kevin: "I'm sorry mommy. Next time I will tell Mickey Mouse to do it."

Other than using Donald Duck to wipe him, he is doing really well using the potty. No accidents, just aiming issues, which makes cleaning non-stop and laundry too. This too shall pass.

Tracey.
What is your ring tone?
Rinnnnnnng rinnnnnnng... imagine that.
Do you plan on moving out in the next year?
Uhhhhh ummmm, ask me another day.
What were you doing at 9pm Friday night?
I HAVE NO IDEA.
Do you have trust problems?
Absolutely.
What was last thing you drank?
Milk, although I wish it was a cosmo.
Has a boy/girl called you baby/babe?
Yes, and I HATE it!
How long was your last phone call?
A few minutes.
Do you smile at strangers?
Occasionally. I usually get strange looks though.
Did your parents spoil you as a child?
Oh God no. Never had cable, never had Nintendo, TV, telephone in my room, Barbies... oh and I wasn't cool enough for Capri Sun's in my lunch either.
Where are you?
HOME
Have you ever told someone everything was okay when it really wasn't?
Of course.
How long is your hair?

wallet thingy, keys, phone, and checkbook.
Do you think you could get to know a person just by reading their survey?
Haaa, no.
What will you do after this?
reread it to see how much of a fool I am for doing it, then remember I simply have a survey addiction.

Jacob's Day today!

Today would have been the first birthday of Baby Jacob. I wish I knew his family, but I probably never will. Check out their blog if you get the chance. It is on my sidebar. Jacob lived for 139 days, I believe. When Jacob was alive, his daddy wrote the blog entries from Jacob's prospective. It was hilarious, and so sweet.
I am a lucky mommy to have celebrated birthdays with my children this year. I take for granted that my children can run up to me and give me hugs, and can blow out their birthday candles. I often forget that so many mommies and daddies will never have that experience.
Take a little extra time to squeeeeeze your kids today! If only Karen and Jason (Jacob's parents) could do that to Jacob today.

I Forgot
Yikes, I forgot that I would be passing the 15000 mark on my counter. Whoaaa! I was 15004! Ok, so many blogs that I read get that in an hour or a day. This blog has been fun, and occasionally therapeutic. Thanks blogland!
Just in case you care, the potty thing is a constant battle, yet going well, I suppose.
New phrases I hear:
"Gotta go potty Mommy!"
"Haaa kiddin' Mommy. I can't go!"
"Oops Mommy, I got pee pee all over the potty!"
"Oops Mommy, I got pee pee all over my underwear."
"Oops Mommy, pee pee went flyin' and it is all over the floor!"
At least he's got the idea. He's sitting on the potty, but that doesn't necessarily eliminate the cleaning and the laundry all the time. I keep telling myself, "it'll get better. it will."

GAME OVER?
I promise (well, not really promise) that this will be the last potty training post. Hey, it has been taking over my life over the last 4 days.
Kevin has been doing really well. He finally understands what it is like to USE the potty.
Unfortunately, I think he is waiting for this silly potty game to be over. At first, he LOVED the praise, lollipops, and fun stuff. Now he is waiting for that to be over. He does not quite understand what the big deal with the potty is. That is nice because he doesn't always expect a reward or a party after going pee or poop. On the other hand, he has a "whatever" attitude about it.
Today he decided that the school playground would be a fabulous place to go poop. Nice of him, huh?! He did his #2 duty before we went to school, so I never thought he would do it. Ehhh, what can ya do! Hopefully this is his accident for the day, and the rest of the day will be a dry one.
That's all on the potty training for now.
I really need some adult time. Talking about potty business is getting OLD very fast! I just hope when I go out, that I won't ask anyone, "Do you have to pee pee on the potty?"

YAYYYY FOR PEE PEE!
This deserves a post all to itself...
KEVIN WENT PEE PEE, AGAIN! No waiting, no begging, no bribes... he just went. I guess waiting the 2 hours in the bathroom this afternoon listening to crying, "I CAN'T", and screaming, was worth every minute. He is sooooo proud of himself!!!! I'm not naive enough to think that accidents will not happen, but for now, whoaaaaa! This is HUGE in this house. Let me gloat for now!
If anyone EVER asks for potty training advice, the only thing I will ever say is, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!! Don't let screaming, crying, accidents, or other people get in your way.
I never thought that pee could make me so happy! HAAAAAAA! And Kerri, hopefully he won't pee in your room anymore.
I cropped this photo to keep it cute, but well, you get the idea.

Learning the Pee Pee Dance
UPDATING THE UPDATE: Jan. 10
HE PEED IN THE POTTY! It took forever, but he did it! Then he pooped all over his room. Ehhhh, gotta start somewhere!
---------------------------------
UPDATE: January 9
This potty training thing is getting me all bent outta shape. Kevin did really well this morning. My definition of well is not having to clean up messes. He was dry for 5 hours, even through rest time again. He also didn't go pee pee in the potty though. Since i am stubborn, we went to pick up Juliana at school while wearing underwear again, even though I knew he had not gone all day. Well, within minutes, he let loose. He chose the most comfortable place at school to pee, Room 22. He was so embarrassed. He asked for a pull-up, he cried once we left the classroom. Poor little man.
He is wearing a new pair of toddler boxers at the moment. No accidents, but at this rate, I am sure he will let loose while we are at the gym. Maybe I will break down and put a pull-up on while we are at the gym.
-------------------------------
Today, I officially started potty training Kevin. He said this morning (while pushing) that he needed to go poop. Oooook, so I put him on the potty. By the time we got there, he had already gone. Ehhh, oh well. I decided to clean him up, and not put on a pull-up. I pulled out the Mickey Mouse underwear that Santa brought. He was soooo proud of himself, even though he had not quite accomplished anything yet.
He was dry through rest time, dry while picking Juliana up at school, but stopped to pee on the living room floor while playing. Nice of him, huh?! He has gone about an hour since the accident, and asked to go potty once. Did he go? Nooooooo. We'll see. I refuse to put on another pull-up until nighttime. I am going to stick with this. Maybe I should go out and buy more underwear.
So, that's the news in our house. Potty training... whooo hooo! INCREDIBLY EXCITING, HUH?????!!!!!
Oh, and his prize of choice for going potty in the toilet is a lollipop. He hates M&M's and nearly all candy so he cried at those rewards. I need to go out to buy a cheap bag of dum-dums.
(I have a picture of Kevin showing off his Mickey underwear. It feels a little strange to post it for the world to see, so I won't. My e-mail is down, so I can't e-mail it either.)

Cupcake Disaster
The other day, Juliana opened what she thought was one of the coolest gifts ever! Grandpa (my dad) got her a cupcake maker, A REAL ONE. I was skeptical about it really producing quality cupcakes, but Juliana pretty much thought it was made of diamonds, so I opened it, and began to make cupcakes with Juliana. There was red velvet cake mix, chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla, and frosting packets too. Sounds yummy, huh?! First we made the red velvet cupcake. We put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. It looked horrendous, yet smelled yummy. Then Juliana chose to use the cream cheese frosting for that cupcake. We made the frosting, and put it in the neato frosting twirling thingy. Success! Once again, it looked horrendous, but smelled pretty good. Next Juliana made the cinnamon cupcake! Again, success! She chose vanilla frosting for that cupcake. It all went downhill from here. The frosting was a total disaster. It ran through the machine, it gooped all over the cupcake. GROSS! It was so nasty, Juliana gave up on the whole thing and wanted to use the cupcake stuff as toys, rather than actual cooking materials. YAYYYY!

I felt bad for Juliana since she thought this was such a cool gift. It was a cool gift! I am sure Grandpa thought he was winning the medal of honor for getting it for Juliana.
So, since the cupcake maker was a disaster, I decided that I would get real cupcake mix and frosting to make in the real (crappy) oven of ours. I did that today. We baked together, then the kids went nuts decorating the cupcakes this afternoon. The frosting was all over the table, the sprinkles went all over. Thank goodness Shadow is visiting. He cleaned the floor for me. It was a fun afternoon baking and decorating. And Juliana is super excited to use the cupcake maker any time she wants in her bedroom kitchen.

POTTY TRAINING HELP, PLEEEEASE!
ANY POTTY TRAINING ADVICE, SEND IT MY WAY! Ok, so we will be training our second child. You'd think we had practice, right? Ehhhh, not really. Juliana was late in training, but once we started, she was not only interested, but NEVER had an accident. I never had to clean carpet, car seats, clothes, shoes, etc. And, I hear girls are easier! Soooo, having said that, I am soooo over diapers and want our little man to be potty trained NOW. Any advice, comment please!
Did I mention Santa brought Mickey Mouse undies? SMART SANTA!
AND THIS BOOK MUST BE FICTION!

NO NO NO, NOT ME!
Last night at dinner, I did not like Daddy's silly idea to put Kevin next to the enormous scary elephant at Elephant Bar for yelling in the restaurant. I did not nearly pee my pants from Kevin being so terrified of his pending (not-gonna-happen) punishment.
While in minute 51 on the treadmill, I most certainly did not have the song "Physical" by Olivia Newton John start playing on my ipod, and suddenly be inspired thinking of the cheeseball 80's video. Nope, not me.
Yesterday while alone with Juliana, I did not think to myself about how nice having one child can be. Nope, not me.
I did not just start this again, and realize how many of these I could do. Maybe, MckMomma and I can write a "Not Me Monday" book one day.

SPECIAL BIRTHDAY
The sweetest girl on the planet is 7 today! We can not be with her to sing or to bring balloons, so this is the best I can do this year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALISSA! Juliana has made many many many cards over the last few days for you, and has been practicing with Kevin on singing to you on the phone later today. Maybe I will get the singing on video, so you can actually watch them sing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! We miss you so much!!!!

KAWASAKI DISEASE
Preston and Travolta have said that Jett became very sick when he was 2 years old and was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, an illness that leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in young children. Source: www.comcast.net
This is incredibly sad. I am hoping that this will bring new research and attention to Kawasaki Disease. Juliana was diagnosed with Kawaaski Disease when she was 13 months old. It is extremely rare, therefore many doctors pass it off since can not offer much to help children diagnosed with it. Luckily Juliana's next echocardiogram is coming up, because my level of paranoia has reached new heights. As those close to us know, seizures are also a part of our lives as well. No further details needed, but this was the fatal combination for Jett.
I am sure John and Kelly wish they had an inkling as to what would happen to their son, and would wish for one last moment with him. I know things like this happen every minute of every day around the world, they are just not published over the media. I guess it is a reminder that money, fame, and glamour do not inhibit sickness, death, and tragedy from happening.
I am smelling the yummy breakfast that Jason is making right now. Juliana is snuggling on the floor watching Mickey Mouse, and Kevin is playing with his magnetic "Joey" dress up dolls. Off to be mommy, instead of logged in to google......
